Coaching Opportunity at JBS Super Camp!

July 28, 2022

Expressions of Interest open to Coach, Manager, and Observe at the upcoming Junior Black Sticks Super Camp

Hockey NZ will be holding a Super Camp for the Junior Black Sticks (JBS) Programme in Hamilton from Monday 10 - Sunday 16 October. The Super Camp will be led by JBS Head Coaches Aaron Ford and Mitch Hayde as part of the wider JBS Programme.

The camp will bring together New Zealands identified U18 and U21 Mens and Women's players and support on-going development and preparation for the Junior World Cup in 2023.

Coach and Manager Development Opportunities

The Super Camp provides a great opportunity for Coaches and Managers to get involved to support the delivery of the camp and grow their experience, knowledge, and skills.

Hockey NZ is excited to open Expressions of Interests (EOIs) for Coaches, Managers and Coach Observations. Please find more information about each of these opportunities below.

  • Coaches: Opportunity to be hands on coaching at the Super Camp. Under the leadership of the JBS Head coaches, the opportunity would include supporting daily trainings, games, and off field activities. Coaches will be well supported, ideally be available to stay in for the duration of the camp, and will have their costs covered.

  • Manages: Working alongside the JBS Head Coaches and wider coaching and management group, Managers will get a first hand experience of supporting a Super Camp. This opportunity will involve managing accommodation, travel, player and coach support at the camp. Managers will be well supported, ideally be available to stay in for the duration of the camp, and will have their costs covered.

  • Coach Observation: This opportunity is designed for coaches who are aspiring to coach in the JBS programme in the future. Coaches will be able to observe trainings and games, and where possible off-field activities. Coaches will be able to learn from the JBS Head Coaches and their wider coaching team. The structure of this activity will be determined following the completion of the EOI process.  All costs will be the responsibility of the coach.

Expression of Interest Process

Coaches and Managers who would like to be considered for any of the three opportunities will need to click on the link below and complete an online EOI, by Wednesday 17 August.

EOI's for Coaches and Managers will be reviewed by a panel consisting of JBS Head Coaches, Hockey NZ Community Coaching Manager, and an independent. Notification of appointments from the EOI process for those who have or have not been successful will be sent by Wednesday 24 August. If required, individuals may be contacted to provide further information to assist the process.

Coaches who submit an EOI for the Coach Observation opportunity,  will receive an email by Friday 26 August with further information. Please note that the structure of this opportunity may be determined by the information received through the EOI process and shaped to best meet the needs of the coaches.

Any individual who is appointed as a Coach or Manager will be required to complete the police vetting process.
