FIH Coaching Courses Delivered Across New Zealand in Early 2026

It is encouraging to see FIH Academy Coaching Courses being delivered by associations and association catchments across New Zealand in early 2026. These FIH designed courses form an important part of nationally aligned coach development opportunities and provide coaches with an internationally recognised coaching accreditation.

To date in 2026, the following FIH courses and workshops have been successfully delivered:

  • FIH Level 1 Coaching Course, Christchurch, led by Canterbury Hockey. Delivered by FIH Educators Sunjay Ganda and Chris Leslie.

  • FIH Level 2 Coaching Course, Christchurch, led by Canterbury Hockey. Delivered by FIH Educators Sunjay Ganda, Chris Leslie and Joe Piggott. This course deserves special recognition as the first association-led FIH Level 2 coaching course delivered in New Zealand in several years.

  • FIH Level 1 Coaching Course, Hamilton, led by Waikato Hockey. Delivered by FIH Educators Nicky Smith and Jamie Carroll.

  • FIH Foundation Goalkeepers Workshop, Nelson, led by Canterbury Hockey. Delivered by FIH Educator Sunjay Ganda.

  • FIH Technical Skills Workshops, Nelson, led by Canterbury Hockey. Delivered by FIH Educator Sunjay Ganda.

Looking ahead, it is exciting to see further FIH courses planned for delivery throughout the winter season. This includes an upcoming FIH Level 3 Coaching Course, led by Hockey New Zealand and targeted at performance coaches.

While Hockey NZ continues to work closely with associations to expand the delivery of FIH coaching courses across the country, it is also important to acknowledge the wide range of other coach support and development initiatives being offered locally. Many of these initiatives align strongly to the National Coaching Direction and contribute to a coherent, connected and coach-centred development system.

If you are a coach who cannot attend in-person courses, we encourage you to visit the FIH Academy. Their online courses are available to coaches worldwide.

Together, these efforts continue to strengthen coaching capability at all levels of the game across Aotearoa New Zealand.
