October 28, 2021

Applications are now open for the Upper South Island Residential Developer Workshop

Hockey NZ, in partnership with the Upper South Island Collective, will be holding a Residential Developer Workshop from the 3-5 December in Christchurch.

This workshop is designed for individuals who are currently, or have the potential to, support the development of coaches. This is NOT a workshop for Community Coaches working with players and officials.

About the Workshop

The Residential Workshop is a great opportunity for individuals wanting to get involved in leading coach development. Facilitated by experienced Trainers, individuals will engage in a combination of theory and practical activities to grow their knowledge and skills of the Developer role.

The workshop will commence on the evening of the 3rd of December including an initial session and dinner. The 4th of December will include a full day programme. The final day will wrap up in the afternoon on the 5th of December and allow everyone to travel home safely.

When: Commence evening of the 3rd of December, finish in the afternoon on the 5th December

Where: Christchurch

Cost: No Cost (travel, accommodation and food will be covered)

How to Apply: Click here to apply

The Hockey NZ Developer Workshop has been designed in alignment to the Sport NZ Developer Programme, FIH Developer Programme and the learning captured through the Hockey NZ Developer Pilot.

The following associations are part of the Upper South Island Collective: Buller, Nelson, Marlborough, South Canterbury, Mid Canterbury, Canterbury, West Coast

Who should Apply?

A Developer is someone who supports the development of coaches. This may include working with coaches of players or coaches of officials in a school, club or association environment.

How a Developer supports a coaches learning can look many ways. This may include chatting one on one with a coach, observing a coach while they are working with their team, leading the delivery of a workshop in a classroom, or working with a group of coaches in a practical session out on the turf.

If you are someone who:

  • is interested in supporting coaches to learn and open to learning
  • Is interested in supporting your local association to lead on-going coach development opportunities
  • may have experience in facilitating learning through hockey, your workplace or a volunteer role
  • may already be providing support to coaches in your school, club or association

Then you should click here and apply.

Application Process

Anyone who wishes to attend the workshop will need to complete the online application form by the midnight on the 7th of November. The form will include a couple of open ended questions and an opportunity to share any additional information or questions.

Once the applications have closed, Hockey NZ will be in touch with each of the applicants to advise if they will be included in the workshop. Selections for the workshop will primarily be focused on identifying individuals who demonstrate an interest and potential to be a Developer. It is intended to have the majority, if not all, of the Upper South Island Associations represented at the workshop.

Unsure or have Questions?

If you are interested in attending the workshop and have more questions or are unsure, please contact Nicole Youman at Hockey NZ, 022 067 5511, nicole.youman@hockeynz.co.nz. Nicole will be happy to share more information about the workshop and work with you to understand if this is a good opportunity for you to get involved in.
