Hockey Leaders Chris Arthur, Kim Archibald, and Robyn Neil are leading a project to better understand the barriers and issues holding women back from putting themselves forward for, and ultimately succeeding in coaching roles at all levels of hockey. This stems from the current lack of female coaches within hockey in New Zealand.
The trio of Chris, Kim, and Robyn, have a wealth of experience, including playing and managing the Vantage Black Sticks, coaching community and performance teams, involvement in national and regional leadership programmes, as well as leadership roles from employment outside of hockey.
The project will initially focus on the Auckland Region, capturing Auckland, Counties Manukau, and North Harbour Hockey Associations. The key learnings will be shared with Hockey New Zealand and all associations to facilitate insight and promote steps forward in this space.
All stakeholders within the Auckland region, regardless of whether you are currently coaching, are invited to share their feedback through the survey link below. The responses will be collated and used to plan a workshop for all interested woman to discuss and understand how we best support interested female coaches to thrive within the hockey community both regionally and nationally. The workshop is to be held at the end of the 2022 season (Saturday 24 September).
