Development opportunities continue for the Women in Coaching Programme alongside the Trans-Tasman series in Palmerston North

The Hockey NZ Women in Coaching Programme has continued its on-going support alongside the recent Trans-Tasman series.

The Programme led by Pat Barwick welcomed the knowledge and experience of Jason Butcher and Chris Leslie to facilitate a Coach Led development focus. Pat, Jason and Chris come with a wealth of international coaching experience and are actively involved in coaching through schools, clubs and associations.

The coaches attended a four day packed schedule, including the following development opportunities:

  • Observation of international Mens and Women's games
  • Engagement in post game debrief to discuss game observations led by Jason Butcher and Chris Leslie
  • Attendance to the Sport NZ Skill Acquisition Pilot workshop
  • Identification of an area of interest to further explore through the support of Pat, Jason and Chris
  • Completion of a practical activity to apply knowledge and grow experience in performance coaching

The group also enjoyed the opportunity to speak with Hockey NZ High Performance Director Tony Hanks and Hockey NZ CEO Anthony Crummy.

The programme will continue to provide on-going opportunities to the coaching cohort to support their growth and development. The programme is designed to prepare coaches for the performance coaching environment.

Hockey NZ would like to acknowledge the support from Programme Lead Pat Barwick, Facilitators Jason Butcher and Chris Leslie, support from guest master coach Niall Denham, and to all the coaches attending from the Women in Coaching Programme, for a valuable four days in sharing, connecting and continuing to grow our knowledge and experience.
