Hockey NZ is one of three sports to be part of the Sport NZ Skill Acquisition Pilot. The other sports involved in the pilot are Basketball and Cricket.
The pilot has been created following the completion of the National Skill Acquisition framework. The aim of the pilot is to support National Sporting Organisations to implement the framework into their community coaching space.
The pilot has three priority outcomes:
The pilot kicked off with a one day workshop for Hockey, led by Sport NZ Consultant Graeme Robson and Sport NZ Sport Development Consultant Andy Rogers. This was held alongside the Trans-Tasman Series in Palmerston north.
Capturing a representation of our hockey community, 25 attendees from schools, clubs, associations, and Hockey NZ were involved in the day. Focusing on the history of Skills Acquisition, understanding of the current research and the National Skill Acquisition Framework, followed by a practical application of the framework.
The next stage in the pilot is a one day workshop in Auckland on the 25th of June, including Developers from all three sports.
Hockey NZ would like to thank everyone who was involved in the day and is working on sharing feedback and resources from the day shortly.
