Calling Female Coaches: Coach Development Opportunity

Hockey New Zealand is calling for expressions of interest for an exciting Female Coach Development opportunity. 
Are you a leader of a team who enjoys developing individuals, developing the whole person, and are curious and constantly seeking new information? Someone who is self-motivated, passionate, and knowledgeable about hockey and enjoys listening, questioning and facilitating learning? If you answered yes, then we have an exciting opportunity for you.

From 16th to the 20th of September, Hockey New Zealand is offering an opportunity for coaches to immerse themselves in the Premier Hockey League Women’s finals.

This opportunity is for coaches who identify as female;
AND OR
Are currently or have previously coached in New Zealand at an association, premier club, premier school or equivalent level Have played at National Hockey League level or above who are interested in transitioning to coaching as a potential career

We aim to have 8 coaches alongside Hockey New Zealand and FIH Coach Trainer Pat Barwick to observe and engage in a performance hockey environment. Hockey New Zealand will cover the costs of accommodation, flights, and majority of meals.



Coaches will engage in the following activities;

  • Game day coaching, including pre and post-match
  • Specialist skills training session
  • Technical and Tactical workshop
  • Women in leadership function to connect with female leaders in the fields of management and officiating and engage with expert guest speakers
  • Reflection sessions to capture and consolidate individual and peer to peer learning



The Hockey New Zealand Coaching team will appoint a panel including one independent to review all expressions of interests and identify a maximum of 8 coaches who meet the criteria and demonstrate the Hockey New Zealand coaching core beliefs.



We are moving fast! Expressions of Interests are now open and will close on Monday 3rd of August.

All coaches who have expressed an interest will be contacted by Friday 7th of August.
