Hockey part of Global Coaches Conference 2023

December 14, 2023

The Global Coaches Conference for 2023 was held in Singapore and involved representatives from our Hockey community!

What is the Global Coaches Conference?

Every two years, the International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE) brings together coaches, coach developers, researchers, sport scientists, technical directors and sport administrators to address issues in coaching, to learn about new coaching research, and to share experiences with the top coaching development experts in the world.

The 14th Global Coaches Conference was held in Singapore from 30th November to 3rd December, 2023 with the theme; "Coaching for a Better Tomorrow”. The main focus was on effective coaching practice, coach learning and development, coaching policy and systems, and inclusivity but with a view of preparing coaches better for a future that is volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous, and technologically advanced.

Over 700 people attended the conference from around the world. The next Global Coaches Conference will be held in 2025 in Athens.

Hockey NZ involved in the Conference

For every Global Coaches Conference individuals from around the world have the opportunity to submit their work and be chosen to present at the Conference. This year Hockey's Tania Cassidy and James Davidson were selected as part of the prestigious team of speakers to share their respective work.

Furthermore, Sport NZ selected Developers to have the opportunity to attend the conference as a Learning Challenge Team facilitator. This years selected team included 5 representatives from Rugby League, Cricket, Football, Yachting, and Hockey NZ's Community Coaching Manager Nicole Youman.

The conference provided a reconnect with Henry Wong, who moved from New Zealand to Singapore in October to take on the role of Hockey Singapore's Women's National Programme coach. Henry has been previously involved in coaching across New Zealand, and most recently at Northland Hockey, and involved in the Hockey NZ Trainer programme.

Hockey New Zealand would like to congratulate Tania and James for their involvement in the conference and thank Sport NZ for their support of Nicole attending the conference. In 2024, resources will be available here, on the Coaching Resource Hub, to be able to share the learning from the conference with the wider hockey community.
