October 22, 2020

Applications are now open for Coaches in the Secondary School space to apply for Coaching for Impact

Sport NZ have launched a brand new initiative, Coaching For Impact. This initiative is aimed at coaches working with secondary school age players.

Alex McKenzie will be the lead learning consultant, bringing with him a wealth of experience and knowledge. Alex has an extensive background in coach development, having previously led the Coach Accelerator Programme for High Performance Sport New Zealand, working with some of New Zealand’s top coaches including Mike Hesson, Steve Hanson, and our very own Darren Smith.

Applications for the programme are now open and close on Monday 30th November at 5pm. Please find further information below.

What is Coaching for Impact?

Coaching for Impact is closely aligned to Sport NZ’s 2020-24 strategy and the Balance is Better philosophy, supporting rangatahi to have quality experiences in sport and stay involved for life. This is a free two-year programme that will be nationally led by Sport NZ and locally supported by experienced mentors - enabling coaches to learn and grow in their own environment. The programme is limited to 60 spaces and will start in February 2021.

The format will include:

  • Two (2 day) residential learning camps per year held in April and November
  • Mentoring support via approved programme mentors
  • Coach observation and feedback
  • Support to develop Personal Development Plans (PDP)

All applications are asked to be endorsed by a school, club, regional or national sport organisation.

Who can apply?

Coaching for Impact is open to all experienced New Zealand coaches who are actively coaching secondary school age players in a school, club, regional or national sport organisation.

Three or more years coaching experience is recommended, along with a history of continuous learning and development. Coaches will need to be committed learners and willing to invest time in their own development.
