FOLLOW THE LEADER
A great warm up activity to develop vision and team work

WHAT YOU NEED:

- 4 cones or items to mark the area of play
- A relatively flat space away from any hazards to run into
- NO sticks or balls are required

HOW IT WORKS:

Organise players into approximately groups of four. In each group number the players 1,2,3 etc until each player has a number.

Players line up in number order, making player 1 the leader. Once the coach says go, the leader, player one, can start by walking anywhere inside the space, and the rest of the players must follow player ones movements.

Coaches can then let players know when they need to switch and have the leader, in this case player 1, move to the back of the line and allow Player 2 to become the leader. Continue switching until all players have had a turn leading.

Coaches can decide when to allow players to go faster and run instead of walk.

COACHING QUESTIONS:

- How do you avoid running into other teams? (using your eyes, body position, ball out in front)
- What happened when you went faster
- What happened when you changed (size of the area, shape of the area)

WAYS TO ADAPT:

- Add obstacles to the area, could even be the coach
- Change the size or shape of the area (bigger space is easier, a smaller space harder)
- Have the players decide how they will switch and when to ensure everyone gets a turn
