Sport NZ will be holding North Island Developer Residential Workshop in April, find out more information including how to apply.

Sport NZ will be holding a North Island Developer Residential Workshop on the 7th ,8th, & 9th of April 2022. This residential course aligns to Sport New Zealand’s National Developer contexts and content and includes the close support of individuals within small groups and the practical application of content.


The Regional Sports Trusts from the Central region will be leading the three-day Coach Developer Training with support from Sport New Zealand’s Sport Development Consultant Kelly Curr.

The course will be delivered by people who have been through Sport New Zealand’s Trainer Programme. They are:

  • Jason Fletcher Sport Manawatu & Squash NZ
  • Guy Honnor Sport Taranaki Coaching Advisor
  • Liz McKinnon Golf New Zealand
  • David King Sport Manawatu
  • *Plus additional trainers to be confirmed


Workshop Objectives

Participants selected to attend the three-day residential course will be provided with learning opportunities around four key course objectives. By the end of the course the participants should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the coach developer role in practice
  2. Demonstrate the delivery of effective learning environments
  3. Identify a range of coach developer contexts
  4. Demonstrate the coach developer skills of observation, questioning, listening, and giving feedback


Application Process

Applications are now open and close Wednesday 23 February 2022. There are only 16 places available. Final selections will be made with an aim to have a diverse range of Coach Developer participants.


Associations will need to actively identify applicants, share the expression of interest form with them, and advise Hockey NZ prior to expression of interest form being submitted. This information is available on the TEAMs Community Hockey Leaders Team under coaching.


All applicants will need to be endorsed by their local association and Hockey NZ.


Course Dates and Details

Participants are expected to be able to commit to the following times.

  • 7 April 2022 – Thursday 12pm - 8pm Note: this allows for dinner and one on one time with Trainers
  • 8 April 2022 – Friday 9am- 7pm Note: this allows for dinner and one on one time with Trainers
  • 9 April 2022 – Saturday 9am - 3pm


The course will be held at the Sports and Rugby Institute, Palmerston North. Participants will have accommodation arranged and paid for by Sport New Zealand. Accommodation will be on a twin share basis at the Sports and Rugby Institute. *Note: Local participants from the Manawatu region can opt to stay at home


For those who need to fly to the course, travel arrangements will be made and paid for by Sport New Zealand. Flights will have participants arriving for a course start at 12pm on Thursday 7 April and departing Saturday 9 April in the afternoon.


In line with Sport NZ policy, vaccine passes are required to be presented prior to attend the residential. Following confirmation of participants, we will require a copy of participants “My Vaccine Pass”.


Costs

There is a $250 course fee per Developer to contribute to the overall cost of the course. The local association of the applicant will be invoiced at the completion of the course.
