SLINGSHOT PASSING
Passing and leading patterns to goal

WHAT YOU NEED:

- Group of 6-9 players and a GK
- Cones to mark the space
- 3-5 Bibs
- Approx. 1/3 of turf

HOW IT WORKS:

Ball starts with A1 who passes to B1. B1 then passes to A2 who passes to B2.

B2 carries the ball towards the top of the cirlce and B1 times their run behind B2 to receive the ball on the move for a shot on goal. B1 moves into a rebounding position. The activity ends when a goal is scored or the GK clears the ball out of the circle. Encourage players to replicate a game situation when shooting and rebounding, taking minimal touches to shoot.

The activity can alternate sides, with the ball starting with A2 and mirroring the passing pattern. If alternating be aware of protecting and developing your GK.

WHAT TO FOCUS ON:

- Footwork and body position to receive and deliver the next pass
- Accurate and strong push passes
- Timing of leads and passes to allow players to receive on the move
- Goal shooting decision making and execution, movement to be set for rebounds

WAYS TO ADAPT:

- Include a defender in the initial box and allow players to pass in any pattern to go to goal
- Include an additional defender in the circle
- Change the starting position of B1 and B2 to encourage different movement patterns
- Set up a release gate on the 25-yard line for defenders to pass through if they turn over the ball
