FRONT 3RD TRANSITION GAME
Problem solving how to create or manage an overload

WHAT YOU NEED:

- Approx 12-14 Players and 2 GKs
- 1 Set of Bibs
- Cones or flat tab markers
- Quarter field space and two goals

HOW IT WORKS:

Break your group into two teams and set up two play zones and one transition zone as per the diagram.

Teams will play a 6v6 game for 6-8mins blocks. However, teams must have 1 player at ALL times in the transition zone and a minimum of 2 players in each of the playing zones.

Teams must manage how they move the extra player between the playing zones while maintaining one player in the transition zone.

The transition zone is a free zone, any player receiving the ball in this area cannot be tackled, and may carry or pass the ball out of the zone.

The game plays out for 6-8minutes before giving the players a rest.

WHAT TO FOCUS ON:

- Off the ball awareness and positioning, to find or create space and support teammates
- Working as a team to manage transitions, adjusting to a player up or down, taking a hold of the advantage, or slowing down play to allow support to come

WAYS TO ADAPT:

- Change dimensions of the play zones and transition zone
- Have the transition zone player pass before leaving the transition zone and joining the attack
- Create freedom where teams can have as many as they like in the playing zones, but need to maintain one in the transition zone, creating attack and defence overloads
