Carrying, passing, and receiving on the move with speed and vision
WHAT YOU NEED:
- Group of 5 Players - Approx 15 by 20m space per group
HOW IT WORKS:
Each group of 5 set up in a dice formation as per the diagram.
Players complete 2 passes between the outside players before making a pass to the inside person who can pass it to anyone on the outside. This pattern is then repeated, completing two outside passes before passing into the player in the middle.
The inside player stays in the middle for 10 touches, before the group can have a rest and switch over the middle person.
WHAT TO FOCUS ON:
- Receiving with the ball out in front, on the stick to support vision and preparation for next pass - Early footwork to support receiving and passing - Awareness of passing pattern, early vision and footwork - Team work and communication to support the ball carrier, talking and cueing for the pass - Ball always moving, and moving at speed
WAYS TO ADAPT:
- Challenge the group to switch the middle person without stopping the activity - Change the pattern to have three passes on the outside before passing into the middle - Create a competition between groups to see who can complete 10 passes into the middle the quickest - Include 3D passing - Encourage the central player to use 1 time and deflection passes and different receiving techniques - Allow players to create their own passing pattern, whilst maintaining the dice structure and the ball not stopping
