SHOOTING RANGE
Preparing, selecting, and executing goal shooting skills in a small sided game

WHAT YOU NEED:

- Groups of 8-12 players and 2 GK's optional
- 5-7 Bibs
- Cones and if available flat tab markers
- Approx 20m by 25m space and two goals

HOW IT WORKS:

Break your group into two teams and set up an area approx. 20 by 25m. Place a goal at either end, you can use cones. If you only have one GK, you can make a rule for teams to score by hitting the backboard or net, or dribbling controlled between the two cones. Flat tab markers can be used to mark out the goal scoring areas or have 2 cones on the outside to indicate the half way point and therefore the scoring zones.

Teams play out a 4v4 only scoring goals from the designated scoring areas. All the rules remain the same with free hits taken on the half way point or where the ball passes over the backline or sideline.

If you have more players you can have 3 teams of 4 and have one team resting, or you can have a 5v5 or 6v6 and increase the field size.

WHAT TO FOCUS ON:

- Early footwork, body position, and receiving with control to create space and ability to shoot
- Shot selection, identifying best choice of shot for different situations
- Working together to create space to shoot or connect with a deflection
- Immediate pressure on the ball carrier to prevent or limit shooting options

WAYS TO ADAPT:

- Change dimensions of playing areas
- Challenge selected players or both teams to only use 3 touches
- Introduce wide zones that teams must pass or carry the ball through before scoring
- Make goals scored by deflection worth double points
