SHORT HAND DISRUPTION GAME
Problem solving being a player up or down

WHAT YOU NEED:

- 10-14 Players, optional 2 GKs
- 2 Cones and 2 Goals
- Approx quarter field and additional space for running

HOW IT WORKS:

Break the group into 2 teams and play a game in approximately a quarter of the field for 6-8min blocks. If you only have one Goalkeeper, you can set up a zone at the end of the field for the defending team to get to, to either score or transition onto attack. Ensure you have additional space to set up a designated cone for each team outside the playing area for players to run around as per the diagram.

During the game, the coach can whistle or shout out every 30-60seconds for a player to leave the game and sprint around the designated cone outside the field of play. The teams alternate who has a player running to the designated cone. This means teams may be a player up or down during different moments of the game.

Teams need to self organise who runs each time - and they play 1 down whilst their player is running.

WHAT TO FOCUS ON:

- Team awareness and organisation of who is running and defending with less numbers
- Defensive organisation, communication to protect dangerous space
- Capitalising on additional players on attack, moving the ball with speed, movement to create space
- Receiving on the move with the ball out in front and on the stick to enable speed and vision

WAYS TO ADAPT:

- Have the coach say 1 or 2, to indicate how many players must complete the sprint
- Introduce a short GK Sprint for teams to strategically adjust
- Both teams roll 2 dice before each 6-8 minute game, the addition of the numbers they roll is how many sprints their team needs to complete in the next 6-8min block. Teams choose how they will complete them, if they don’t complete them before the time is finished then they forfeit the game.
