Carrying, passing, and receiving on the move with speed and vision
WHAT YOU NEED:
- 10-15 players - 5 Cones - Approx 10m x 10m space
HOW IT WORKS:
Set up a star shape as per diagram. Have 2-3 players start on each cone, and the ball can start at any of the cones.
The activity starts by a Player A carrying the ball approx. half the distance towards the cone 2nd on their left, before making a push pass to Player B. Player A then follows their pass and joins the end of the line.
Player B receives on the move and carries the ball half way towards the 2nd group on their left to Player C, before making a pass. Player B then follows their pass and joins the end of the line. The pattern continues.
Challenge players by changing the direction, or adding in a second ball.
Consider completing the activity for a set amount of time or until players are back in their starting position.
WHAT TO FOCUS ON:
- Receiving out in front, stick on the ball, and on the move, to enable speed and vision - Push pass on the move with the ball out in front, body weight going forward - Awareness of congestion and adjusting to execute pass
WAYS TO ADAPT:
- Simplify by starting with static passes and players running through without carrying the ball to understand the pattern - Change direction to the 2nd group to your right - Have 2 balls in play at the same time, consider adding a third - Have the receiving player complete a skill before making their pass, for example a drag of 3D lift
