- Groups of 6 Players - 4-5 Cones per group - Pool noodles or another obstacle - Approx 10m by 5m space
HOW IT WORKS:
Break into groups of approx 6 players and set up a pool noodle or obstacle and cones as per diagram.
Player A passes into player B who leads into the area in front of the pool noodle. Whilst using the speed off the pass, player B controls a 3D deflection over the pool noodle, regains the ball and makes a push pass to player C. The activity repeats back the other way.
Consider the work to rest ratio, allowing players time to test and explore and if ready to speed it up. For a competent group executing with speed, consider breaking every 2-3mins or after players have had 4-5 goes.
WHAT TO FOCUS ON:
- Timing of the lead and push pass - Testing different grips to manipulate stick position to create different angles to manage height and length of the deflection - Footwork and balance to execute the defelection, get the ball on the stick, out in front, to see and deliver the next pass - Player C receiving the ball out in front, early footwork and vision to execute the next pass
WAYS TO ADAPT:
- Focus on Fore-stick deflection, then transition to Reverse stick deflection, or allow players to select - After the deflection, players continue a 3D carry and pass off a bouncing ball - Allow Player B to mix up their starting position to change their lead and angle, remember to cue with the passer as to where they want the ball
