CARRY RELAYS
Carrying, passing, and receiving on the move with speed and vision

WHAT YOU NEED:

- Groups of 5-6 players
- Cones or Flat markers optional
- Space 20m by 20m or quarter of a field

HOW IT WORKS:

Break into groups of 5-6 players. Each group will then set up in a relay like fashion as per the diagram.

The ball is carried with vision and speed and then passed as the player reaches the halfway point. This player then runs through to join the end of the line. The next player in line then receives the ball.

A skill element can be included as part of the relay, a player will carry forward and execute the skill near the half way point before making the pass and running through to join the back of the line.

Keep an eye on time, and consider working for 2-3minutes before giving the players a break, this may provide a good oportunity to share or capture feedback and make any adaptations if needed

WHAT TO FOCUS ON:

- Ball carry needs to be controlled, with speed and vision
- Encourage the receive on the move, ball out in front with control and footwork
- Having vision, getting the eyes up, ball position and posture will affect this
- Push pass technique at speed, ball should be out in front and body weight forward
- Continue to run after delivering the pass through to the end of the line

WAYS TO ADAPT:

- Change numbers and or work to rest ratio to make it a skill conditioning activity
- Change the skill that is executed in the middle, option to allow players to decide
- Have players carry the ball on angles then have to reposition to make the pass
- Challenge players to carry the ball without looking down at it from when they receive to when they pass
- Adjust the positioning of the receiving player to move left or right, so the passer must identify where they need to pass
