TRANSPORTER GAME
Understanding how to use width as a team to create attacking opportunities

WHAT YOU NEED:

- Approx. 10-16 Players and optional 2 Goalkeepers
- 1 Set of bibs
- 20 Cones or flat tabs
- Half field space
- 1-2 Goals (can use cones)

HOW IT WORKS:

Break the group into 2 teams, such as 7vs7 OR 8vs8 half field game. Create a transporter zone approximately 5 metres wide on both sides of the field. Flat tabs are ideal, but you can use cones. Then place goals either end as per the diagram, again you can use cones.

Playing in blocks of 6-8mins, each team must keep 1 player in each of the transporter zones at all times while trying to score a goal.

The player in the Transporter zone can be used:
A) As a rebound board whereby you pass off them and they stay in the zone
B) To interchange with another player
C) As a pass for them to carry into the playing area

If a player leaves the transporter zone, a team mate must replace them at the same time but this does not need to be at the same point in the zone.

The players in the transporter zone can move up and down the zone. Once the ball has been received in the transporter zone, this area is a free zone, this player cannot be tackled but they cannot carry the ball within the zone or hold on to the ball for more than a few seconds.

Manage the umpiring of the game to encourage creativity with how teams use the transporter to their advantage. Goals that are scored where the ball went through the transporter zone could be worth double points.

WHAT TO FOCUS ON:

- Player awareness and engagement off the ball
- Team creativity and problem solving
- Communication and connections
- Thinking and looking ahead, playing in the future
- Utilisation of the Transporter Zone

WAYS TO ADAPT:

- For less players make the field size a little smaller
- For uneven numbers, have an extra or have one player in a different coloured bib who is always on the team with the ball
- Only one GK, create transition line at one end of the field. Teams must get the ball controlled over this line to transition onto attack and force the other team to defend
- To challenge individuals or teams, consider making a rule to limit touches to 2-3
