Apply now to be a Trainer and become part of a team supporting Hockey NZ to lead the national direction for coaching and support the Developer network.

Programme Overview

Hockey NZ is developing capability across our coaching community by building a network of people, Trainers, to support the development of our coaching system. Trainers will work with Hockey NZ in supporting the leadership of the coaching system and the capability build of the Developer Network. The Developer network lead the support of Coaches working with our players and umpires.


To build the Trainer Network,  Hockey NZ have designed a 12 month programme in alignment to the Sport NZ Trainer Programme and the learning captured from the Hockey NZ Trainer Pilot Programme.


The programme is led by Hockey NZ and experienced mentors. The programme enables Trainers to access on-going development to grow their capability and that of the coaching system, and ultimately enhance the support of community coaches.


What is Involved?

Trainers will be part of a 12 month programme, accessing residential workshops to provide on-going professional development and support Hockey NZ in growing the coaching system. Online Meetings will be held across the year to provide regular check in points.

 

As a network, Trainers will work together to deliver the National Developer programme which includes residential workshops, online workshops, observation and mentoring.


All expenses incurred from the programme will be covered by Hockey NZ and remuneration available for delivery of the Hockey NZ Developer Programme.


The key roles include;

  • Engaging in on-going professional development of self and others
  • Supporting Hockey NZ to Implement the National Community Coaching Plan
  • Supporting Hockey NZ to Deliver the Hockey NZ Developer Programme
  • Supporting local opportunities for coach development


Over 12 months Trainers will engage in the following activities;

  • October 2021: Trainer Residential Workshop
  • December 2021: Trainer Online Meeting 1.5 hours
  • January 2022: Trainer Online Meeting 1.5 hours
  • May 2022: Trainer Online Meeting 1.5 hours
  • June 2022: Trainer Residential Workshop 2.5 days

*Trainers will also support the delivery of the Hockey NZ Developer Programme delivery held across November and February

Who Should Apply?

The Trainer Programme is designed to support a network of individuals to work together to grow their skills in the Trainer space and support the Hockey NZ Developer Programme.


Anyone applying will be passionate about growing people and growing the wider coaching system. They will be a continuous learner, supporting the development of themselves and others. It would be expected individuals would have experience across some of the following areas:

  • Understanding of the Developer model
  • Creating positive learning environments for Adults
  • Building meaningful relationships
  • Thinking critically
  • Applying the skills of Observation, Questioning, and Feedback
  • Development of Coaches of Players/Umpires

Individuals may be in full time or volunteer roles within or outside of our hockey system.


How to Apply

Applications for the National Trainer Programme are open now and will close on September 5 2021 (extended deadline!). There will be up to 12 trainers accepted onto the 12-month programme, starting in October 2021. All applicants will be contacted the by 10th September 2021.

Please note the following

  • All expenses incurred as part of the Trainer Programme will be covered by Hockey NZ
  • It is anticipated that Trainers will need to commit 7 days a year to engage in on-going development and a be available for a minimum of one Developer Residential and/or refresher workshop where remuneration is available.
  • Remuneration will be available for Trainers delivering the Hockey NZ Developer Programme, where required formalised agreements will be available for individuals and/or employers
  • The majority of delivery for the Hockey NZ Developer Programme is anticipated to be held on weekends and after hours to best capture our Developer network.
  • The selection panel for the Trainers Programme will compose of Hockey NZ Technical Manager, Hockey NZ Community Coaching Manager and two independents
