1V1 PROGRESSIVE DEFENCE
Individual and team defence and attack in the circle

WHAT YOU NEED:

- 8 - 16 Players and 1 GK
- Cones
- 4-6 Bibs
- Approx 1/3 field and one goal

HOW IT WORKS:

Set up 4 channels as per diagram and have one attacker and one defender in each channel. As numbered in the diagram, each 1v1 goes in a pre-set order, one at a time. Once a 1v1 is completed, both players move into the circle and join the next 1v1, this will create a 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4.

Each 1v1 is started by the attacking player passing the ball to the defender who passes the ball back to the attacker to initiate the 1v1. The players must stay in their channel until they enter the circle. Once the activity enters the circle players from any previous 1v1s can join in.

If a defender makes a tackle they must carry the ball controlled over the 25 yard line.

If the activity is breaking down, consider having an additional bunch of balls and after the completion of the 4v4 calling on one attacker to stay in the circle for a quick receive and shot.

WHAT TO FOCUS ON:

- Individual tackling, using footwork and body position to create a turnover
- Ball on the stick out in front to allow vision, carrying on angles to move the defenders and selecting an appropriate elimination skill
- Working with teammates to adjust structure as the numbers change on both attack and defence

WAYS TO ADAPT:

- Change the order of the 1v1s
- Change where the defender starts in the channel, such as a square pass, to change the angles
- Add a free defender that starts in the defensive circle to make it 1v2, 2v3, 3v4, 4v5
